About the Forum

This free biotechnology town hall-style forum was hosted by the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum to discuss the application of biotechnology to Minnesota specialty crops. They brought together stakeholders, researchers, regulators, and educators for open dialogue to engage these groups. The forum identified conflicts, improve understanding of biotechnology, especially gene editing, and address stakeholders’ questions connected to the application of biotechnology in Minnesota specialty crops. A significant component of the forum were presentations and discussion on what gene editing is, how it is applied to crop improvement, and its risks and benefits. This data will be used to further define and shape educational materials.
